Census counts show how quickly Middletown grew: 6,161 people in 2000, 18,871 in 2010, and about 24,661 in 9,136 homes today, per ACS 2024 5-year figures via Census Reporter. In the 19709 ZIP, 67 percent of homes were built in 2000 or later and only 4 percent before 1960, and the town's median home dates to 2005. The 2022 comprehensive plan names Parkside, the Estates at St. Anne's, Parkway at South Ridge, Spring Arbor and Willow Grove Mill among its newer single-family neighborhoods. Shrubs and bed borders planted with a 2005 house are about 20 years old now.
Town rules set the mowing calendar. When Middletown adopted the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code in October 2019, Ordinance 19-09-02 wrote 10 inches into the weeds section as the limit. Yard waste runs on its own terms: Casella empties the forest green bin with the bright yellow lid only from April 1 to November 30, and it takes no bags of any kind, no root balls, no dirt and no sod. Overflow branches ride a neighborhood route the town published in 2024, from Cricklewood and Lakeside on Mondays to Spring Arbor, Middletown Village and The Parkway at Southridge on Fridays.
Snow comes with a deadline here. Chapter 146 of the town code tells occupants to clear the sidewalk within 24 hours after the snow stops falling, and every extra day counts as a new offense. NOAA's Storm Events Database shows a trained spotter in Middletown measuring 6.0 inches on January 3, 2022, and Middletown posting the county's top total, 6.0 inches, on January 19, 2024. The January 25, 2026 storm left 7 to 9 inches of snow and sleet across most of New Castle County, and NOAA says the ice-capped pack held for three to four weeks. We clear driveways, walks and the public sidewalk out front.
Storm cleanup is the other big job. The historic center, a National Register district since 1978 running from Lake Street to Cochran Street, sits on consistently sized quarter-acre lots, with large Victorian houses along North and South Broad Streets and North Cass Street. NOAA logged a downed tree and wires near Main Street and Middletown-Warwick Road on June 4, 2020, and an 87 mph gust at a Middletown weather station on July 12, 2022. On July 9, 2023, an EF1 tornado that formed about four miles northeast of town, near North Bayberry Parkway, uprooted a line of cedars on Milford Drive and blew down another row on Ethel Court.

Ten inches. Ordinance 19-09-02, adopted October 7, 2019, put 10 inches into the weeds section of Middletown's property maintenance code and sends enforcement through the town's residential grass cutting rules. Spring growth can cover that distance quickly, so we set you up on a regular mowing schedule from the first cut of the season and keep the lawn well below the line.
Read the town's form first. The 2026 to 2027 application says anyone enrolled who secures other snow removal services during the application year will be terminated from the program. The town crew shovels only the main front walk or the path to the door, only after at least 3 inches fall, and never driveways. If you choose private service instead, we handle the driveway, walks and sidewalk.
Yes. Middletown's Streets Department collects overflow branches and leaves on a weekly neighborhood route after you call Public Works, and Casella's bin only runs April through November. When we prune shrubs, clear brush or take down a small tree, we load the debris and take it with us, so nothing sits at the curb waiting for the route.
Mowing and edging, landscaping and new beds, block retaining walls, decorative stone and mulch, brush removal, and seasonal cleanups. If it's outside, just ask.
Yes. We dig out and level the base, set the block, and backfill so the wall stays straight. Then we can finish the bed with stone, mulch, and plants.
Yes. Snow removal is on our sign right next to mowing and landscaping. We clear driveways, walks and steps after a storm. Call or text (302) 244-2121 before the first snow so we know where you are.
Smyrna and Clayton, plus Cheswold, Kenton, Leipsic, Hartly, Townsend, Odessa and Middletown. If you are a little further out, call or text (302) 244-2121 and ask.
Yes. Small tree removal and brush removal are both on our sign. We cut out small trees, thick brush and vines and haul it all away. A big tree near the house or the power lines is a job for a tree service, and we will tell you if yours is one.
Yes. Clippings, leaves, brush and old mulch leave with us, and we blow off the walks and the driveway before we go.
Yes. We edge play areas with a border and fill them with fresh gravel, like the playset area in our gallery.
